Theme : “Goscinny’s Journey”

Son of a Polish father and a Ukrainian mother, René Goscinny was born in Paris and grew up in Argentina.

The Goscinny family frequently travelled on transatlantic liners to visit grandfathers and cousins in France. This was the first source of inspiration for the young man. For René Goscinny, France “was the fabulous, exotic country where we went on holiday. Nanterre, the Deux-Sèvres, it was Timbuktu”. At the age of 22, he moved to New York where he met Morris, the illustrator of Lucky Luke, and in 1951 he met Uderzo in Paris, with whom he participated in the creation of the newspaper “Pilote”. 1959 saw the birth of Asterix and Iznogoud. Through his comic strips, the genius scriptwriter has made generations of children and adults travel the world. With three of his emblematic characters SUREX offers spectators the chance to go on a journey to meet Asterix the Gaul, Iznogoud the vizier who wanted to be Caliph instead of the Caliph and Lucky Luke the man who shoots faster than his shadow.
