August 15, 2025 - 10pm IKEBUN Japan

Bay of Cannes August 15, 2025 - 10pm

Theme: Sound of Resonance

What if fireworks had a voice? What if each burst of light carried a breath, an emotion?

In Japan, it is said that objects that are deeply cherished end up harboring a soul. In the same way, we believe that words and music can also be bearers of life – capable of moving people, passing through time and conveying universal messages.

It is this conviction that has guided the creation of this show: to create a unique sensory and emotional experience, by marrying sounds – imbued with diverse histories and cultures – with the light of fireworks.

In Sounds of Resonance, the ancient rhythms of traditional Japanese music meet the bold pulsations of contemporary music. The clash of explosions, the breath of an extinguished spark – everything becomes rhythm, everything comes alive, everything vibrates and spreads across the world.

We hope this work will awaken deep emotion in you, and make your soul vibrate to the rhythm of fire and sound.

Firm: Ikebun Japan

Ikebun is one of Japan’s leading fireworks companies, with a 121-year history. Based in Shizuoka, the cradle of Japanese pyrotechnic tradition, it combines traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology to create stunning displays. In recent years, Ikebun has gone beyond fireworks: the company combines its pyrotechnic creations with a variety of staging elements – Japanese samurai demonstrations, wadaiko drums, etc. – to create immersive, never-before-seen shows.

Winner of numerous awards at the country’s most prestigious pyrotechnic competitions, in 2015 Ikebun was awarded the Prime Minister’s Prize at the Great Ōmagari Fireworks, considered the pinnacle of the genre in Japan. She has also won several victories at Tokyo’s famous Sumida River Fire, one of the country’s oldest and busiest.

Ikebun’s participation is part of a strong link between the cities of Cannes and Shizuoka. It is said that Shizuoka was the first place where the Japanese were able to admire fireworks, and the city occupies a central place in pyrotechnic manufacture. In the Edo period (17th century), the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu authorized the manufacture of gunpowder, enabling the Japanese art of pyrotechnics to flourish.

This culture has been passed down to the present day, and Shizuoka still hosts numerous festivals every year. Among them, the “Shimizu-Minato” Pyrotechnics Festival, held at the harbor, is a summer must-see – a fireworks display on the sea orchestrated each year by Ikebun.

Through this show in Cannes, Ikebun hopes to bring to life a little of the atmosphere of the “Shimizu-Minato” Festival, driven by Japanese excellence.

In Japan, the word fireworks is spelled 花火 (hanabi), literally “flower of fire” is a symbol of peace for the Japanese. Through this performance, the company hopes not only to bring joy to the public, but also to share with them the desire for a world at peace, a twinkling light that connects us all : Cannes and Shizuoka, France and Japan, and beyond that, people the world over.

In Cannes, they will have the honor of presenting Sounds of Resonance, a unique show where tradition and innovation intertwine, and hope that this fireworks display will touch the French public and offer them a glimmer of Japan, echoing in the skies of the Riviera.
